Durrence Headed to Run-Off

As written by Eric Curl in the Savannah Morning News

Bill Durrence will face incumbent Savannah Alderman Mary Osborne in a runoff on Dec. 1 for the Savannah City Council’s second district after both failed to garner more than 50 percent of the vote Tuesday.

Durrence received 44 percent to Osborne’s 29 percent, according to unofficial results posted by the Chatham County Board of Elections Tuesday night.

Detric Leggett received 23 percent of the vote, while Andrée Patterson rounded out the race results with 4 percent.

Osborne said she was running for her fourth term because there were incomplete projects she wanted to get done such as the Cultural Arts Center, a new civic arena and Waters Avenue revitalization efforts.

Durrence, a retired photographer, had criticized the time it took Osborne and other council members to address vacancies on the police department, while calling for investment in high-speed broadband infrastructure to attract high-paying employers and reduce poverty.

November 3 Election Results

Mary Osborne: 29 percent
