Summer 500 Program seeks employers

Program Objectives

  • Increase internship, apprenticeship and mentorship opportunities for 500 students in the Greater Savannah area

  • Identify visionary business partners who are willing accept participating students and invest in Savannah’s future workforce.

Community Need

City leaders are committed to expanding and promoting structured activities which target local youth and provide opportunities for growth. Savannah Summer 500 Youth Employment Program will provide gainful opportunities for local youth, connecting them with potential employers, and providing positive role models and structured activities.

Through this partnership with local schools, Chatham County, Junior Achievement, Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, SEDA and local businesses, the program will provide students with soft skills training, literacy and numeracy development, financial management as well as provide career-path guidance.

Schedule

Summer 500 runs from June 3, 2019 through August 2, 2019. During the 8-week program, students will work at least 32 hours per week. Soft skill training will take place on the first week of the program.

Your Investment

Participating employers should expect to invest their Time to mentor their intern(s) and direct wages equivalent to $8/hr for eight-weeks.

The Summer 500 by the numbers:

  • Total number of jobs needed: 500

  • Length of Program: minimum of eight-weeks; though some employers may choose to employ the student beyond the summer

  • Program dates: June 3- August 2, 2019

  • Employer investment: Time & Wages

  • Days worked: 32 working hours per week; schedule is flexible and may include weekends to best suit the business.
