Bill Durrence Campaign files complaint with Georgia Government Campaign and Finance Commission again

Mr. Leggett is a seasoned candidate having run for office twice previously – so missing the filing deadlines for all required campaign contribution disclosure statements – four in total – is more than an oversight as suggested by Mr. Leggett. Rather it illustrates a glaring failure to pay any attention to the basic, fundamental pillar of transparency, the sources for collection and the disbursement of campaign funds. It doesn’t matter if a third party is assigned the task of doing the work and compiling the record as Mr. Leggett apparently did. The bottom line is that each of the required reports requires the candidate’s signature attesting to the veracity of the data – and the fact that Mr. Leggett had apparently not seen one since his campaign began should have raised alarm bells with him. The fact that it didn’t should concern all of us.
We appreciate Mr. Leggett taking responsibility for this failure, but are disappointed that in doing so he thought it prudent to lash out at Bill personally and the Durrence campaign committee, which had in fact waited patiently through several missed reporting periods before deciding to refer the matter to appropriate campaign disclosure authorities for disposition.

COMMITTEE TO ELECT BILL DURRENCE FILES COMPLAINT WITH GEORGIA GOVERNMENT CAMPAIGN AND FINANCE COMMISSION
[SAVANNAH, Ga] – The Committee to Elect Bill Durrence has filed a complaint alleging Second District Alderman opponent, Detric Leggett violated Georgia law by ignoring requirements to file campaign disclosures required by the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Act.
The complaint comes after multiple requests to City of Savannah’s Clerk of Council, Mark Massey to obtain Leggett’s September 30, 2019 Campaign Contribution Disclosure Report (CCDR). Massey confirmed Leggett’s failure to file that report and several others. In fact, Leggett has failed to file a CCDR since filing his Declaration of Intent to Accept Campaign Contributions on January 8, 2019. Filings were due on January 31, March 31, June 30 and September 30.
In response to Leggett’s alleged failure to fulfill his basic campaign responsibilities, Bill Durrence who is the current Second District Alderman asks, “If we cannot trust him to tell us how he is spending his campaign money, then how can we trust him to tell us how he spends our tax dollars?”
Failure to file reports could lead to fines by the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Office.
